Carbon Monoxide Detectors

The city of Clearwater and CGS Energy recommend the use of carbon monoxide detectors with gas stoves and/or other appliances. However, we don’t give advice on which brand to purchase.

The most important thing to consider when making your purchase is to get a detector that is UL-rated.

If You Suspect a Gas Leak

  • If you suspect a gas leak, call the CGS Energy Emergency Hotline immediately at (727) 462-6633, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Do not try to locate the leak yourself. If the gas leak odor smells strongly of rotten eggs, then call 9-1-1 from a neighbor's house.
  • If a leak is suspected near the natural gas transmission pipeline, call the number shown on the pipeline marker. If the smell of gas is particularly strong or no number is available, call 9-1-1.
